Made a lot of progress on this bad boy. Decided that the outfit could use a little bit more asymmetry and a lot more weapons!
Still a long ways out but I'm happy with the progress.
I've also done a little rough out of the pose.

A little more progress on my Demon / Gladiator / Knight Character.
Some of the forms have been simplified as I felt there wasn't enough areas of rest as the design was getting a bit cluttered. Things are now more concise in the placement of features and details.
Most of the the topology is clean and ready to be up scaled for some finer details. Still some ways to go before I can put everything back into Maya and really start to get this ready for texturing; over all I'm having a lot of fun with this guy!
This is the result of the first few days spent blocking out the Demon character which will sit upon the Podium I've just finished up.
Having a good base mesh to work from has really sped up the process in terms of a first pass allowing me to block out some of the big forms and general shape language for this bad boy relatively quickly. This is very early days but its coming along pretty well; He is going to have a stripped down look about him having a blend of an Oni and a Roman Gladiator with some medieval styled armor and weapons.
Once I'm happy with the block out this will all go into Topogun or Maya (which ever seems appropriate) and I will do a quick low rest mesh that I can build up from. Then back into ZBrush for some nice high res details... then the juggling act begins between the two programs.
I still need to figure out what weapon or weapons he will have; I'm thinking and spear and a sword as I'd like him to be a bit over the top.
I'd love to hear peoples thoughts so far and if anyone has some suggestions on weapons!
I've decided to trim the fat a bit on what's on the podium as when everything was put into Arnold it was looking very crowded; The only thing left now is to finish the high res sculpting on the rib cage and bake everything down. All of the other props are set up and waiting some more finesse with Substance Painter.
Once the ribs are done I'm going to shelve the final look dev on this and start on the pose for the character I'm going to put on top.
Here are some test renders from todays session:
I've been working on remeshing and UVing everything. far more time consuming than anticipated but mostly done; just a few bones, two pikes and the rocks to go.
Next steps will be finish off the sculpt and bake displacement maps and start getting everything set up in Arnold.
Progress on the podium.
Spent the weekend making extra props, once I'm more happy with the placement and mood some degradation will be needed; I want everything to feel old and battle worn as if its been laying there for a great deal of time.
CC always welcome.
Initial look dev for the overall design is in its early stages as well as the lighting set up; its difficult the get the Rembrandt lighting looking moody.
It was fun to play with Micro Poly for the clothing, very time consuming but satisfying once its done.
